Selecting Gear are very pleased to offer this lovely example of an 80s icon, the Ford XR3i Cabriolet, first registered on the 22nd October 1990.
With its super sharp looks and sporty demeanour, the XR3i was achingly cool when it was introduced back in the mid 80s and was more than a match for the other hot hatches available at the time. With the roof down there was no finer way to enjoy a B-road on a sunny Sunday than putting an XR3i cabriolet through its paces.
Housing the 108bhp 1.6 CVH EFI engine, this fine example for auction here is one of the later examples, accommodating what is widely regarded as the ‘engine of choice’ for the XR3i, with Ford developing an electronic fuel injection system in 1988 which was further enhanced with the introduction of the EFI model in the last year of production, of which this example is one such model.
The interior is beautifully clean and in very good order with no rips or tears, solid side bolsters and no cracks or colour fading to the dash and surround, with the only very minor issue to resolve being a faulty rear heated windscreen
The exterior of the car is presented in gleaming Mercury Grey and is in near perfect condition with only some very minor age-related marks. The hood and tonneau cover are in excellent condition and the car shows no sign of rust. In fact, the last MOT tester was so blown away by the condition of the car, especially underneath, that they filmed the underside of the vehicle whilst being tested!
