Launched at Thruxton Motor Circuit on 1st March 2012 in order to help those affected by military operations by engagement through sport, the charity recognised from the outset the astonishing inspirational and healing potential of sport.
Motorsport is unique in that the disabled compete against the able bodied on a level playing field – there is no separate category for disability. Engineering allows Mission Motorsport to adapt the vehicle, not the sport, and that leveller is a strong draw that the charity harnesses to help those who may be hard to reach – connecting them with amazing opportunities for second careers, beyond the military.
The Forces’ Motorsport Charity, whose motto is “Race Retrain Recover” is MoD’s competent authority for motor sport as a recovery activity, and is a Royal Foundation (the charitable trust of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) and Endeavour Fund supported initiative.
The charity’s dedicated career managers have placed more than 200 Wounded, Injured and Sick service leavers into employment since the inaugural Invictus Games in September 2014. Over 2000 veterans have found work through the charity’s programs.
The “Bears”, as they are affectionately known, are a dedicated group of classic car and sports car enthusiasts with the primary aim – to raise money for children’s charities through their own social, dream rides and touring events, and to support other charitable events.
It is to the club’s credit that annual subscriptions support the club overheads thus allowing all monies raised from Dream Rides and other events to be directed towards the selected charities.
Since the Club was formed in 1989 we have been very active and have raised over £2,400,000 for children’s charities in the UK.
Although the club is open to the owners of all classic saloons and sportscars, as well as modern sports cars and kit cars of a sporting nature, they also have a number of members who do not own such cars but they enjoy helping the Bears to fund raise by assisting at shows and other functions. So – if you are interested in helping worthwhile causes then why not join them, whatever car you have.
RESTORATIONS – DETAILING – BODYWORK
Established in June 2015, The Beaconsfield Workshop is the brainchild of respected, very experienced hands Martin Hawes, David Redrup and Leigh Birch, all of whom were previously directors of another specialist enterprise.
They were wholly responsible for that company’s renowned bodyshop, which became: one of only 6 such businesses approved by Lotus Cars, the chosen body repairer of Lotus Silverstone, and the sole such provider for numerous major dealer groups, insurance companies and individual car enthusiasts and collectors.
The Beaconsfield Workshop has subsequently expanded to serve all previous clientele, plus countless new customers who’ve grown to hear of the notable quality of its work.
