First Produced in 1964 as a result of the failed purchase by Ford of Ferrari, The Ford GT was born for the race track, and conceived to beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Suffice to say it took the World by storm, its radical design, big American engine and super low height at just 40’’ tall, all combined to blow the opposition away. Based on the Lola Mk6, the Ford GT Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 were all build in the UK and shipped to the USA for testing and fettling. The Ford GT 40 went on to do exactly what it was designed to do, winning Le Mans four consecutive times from 1966 to 1969; and in 1966 in front of packed grandstands and Henry Ford II, it achieved a 1-2-3 finish.

This particular Ford GTD40 was first registered in the UK in April 1996 and has been in the hands of only 2 owners in all of that time, it looks really stunning in its blue livery with silver stripe. The car has been used very sparingly, covering just 15.481 miles over the past 24 years, it is fitted with a small block Ford V8 and sounds incredible; just as the originals, an amazing soundtrack, iconic looks and pace to match. There is a file of invoices and bills that back up the build and provide a clear and detailed history on the vehicle.

Unsurprisingly, there have been a slew of replica GT40s made over the years to celebrate the achievements of the originals, but GTD Supercars are the standout builder of GT40 replicas in the UK. In the late 90’s they had the necessary facilities and talented engineers to turn out some beautifully built and carefully detailed cars. GTD Supercars began life as agents for KVA GT40 Replica, but very quickly they redesigned both the front and rear of the chassis and began selling the improved cars as GTD 40s.

As is so often the way with highly talented engineers, they were not happy until they were building the whole car to their exacting standards, which is why these cars so often take pride of place at so meant historic and GT40 events today.

This is a quality replica, that has been carefully looked after, in iconic colours that looks, sounds and drives exactly as it should, a real head turner and something to make you grin as you open the garage door!
